UK Humanitarian Charity, Operation Florian is recruiting for its 2015 running team to run the New York City Marathon. The charity is calling for firefighters and emergency service staff and supporters to get involved and join in with more than 50,000 runners to run the ING New York Marathon on 1 November 2015.

The challenging course starts on Staten Island continuing through Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and the streets of Manhattan. You will run through a melting pot of ethnic and cultural influences as you leave suburban Staten Island, run through Brooklyn and Queens before crossing into Manhattan. Take in spectacular views of the Empire State Building, continue through Central Park and briefly pass through the Bronx; magnified by with atmosphere of up to two million spectators make this a truly unforgettable experience.

The New York crowds proudly claim to be the best, the loudest and the most fun as they welcome the World to their City as New York City’s road runners testify.
By joining the Operation Florian running team you will be sure to enhance your Marathon experience. In previous years Florian runners have had the unique opportunity to join FDNY’s entourage in a blue light escort to the race start line and be kindly invited to join FDNY’s after marathon bash celebrations at a Central Manhattan hotel. The FDNY team have also welcomed Operation Florian with a VIP visit to their FDNY Training Academy on The Rock, Randall’s Island, located between the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan.

The most recent Marathon 3 months ago marked the 5th year the charity has run the NYC marathon to raise money for Operation Florian, which provides training and firefighting equipment to less well-off countries. First in for the team was Craig Neal from Vimpex Rescue who completed the challenge in a super speedy 3 hours 21 minutes. Chris Bray finished 2nd in 4 hours 24 minutes. Third finisher, Jonathan Webb swiftly followed in a time of 4 hours 35 minutes.
There is no doubt that this is a thrilling challenge, previous Florian runners have spoken of their experiences as ‘ a once in a lifetime trip and humbling experience, you will never see anything like the crowds in New York’ and  ‘this was a chance in a lifetime experience. If you’re going to run a marathon, make it the NYC marathon, the company and crowds made it unforgettable.’
Last year the New York Marathon running team raised more than £8000 for the Charity. Some of these funds have already helped us empower scoping teams which have been sent to vulnerable refugee camps located in the Western Thailand and Myanmar border.

Cathy Clark, fundraiser at Operation Florian said ‘The New York Marathon is the fundraising highlight of our year. The atmosphere makes for an incredible experience, enjoyed by all who take part.
