New Couple take over Hunningham’s Red Lion Pub

It wasn’t just the Red Lion in Hunningham’s unique riverside location with open countryside views which attracted new owners Mercedes Grayshon and Stephen Roberts. The couple who were looking for a new venture immediately recognised the business potential in this charming country pub. With stone and wooden floors, feature open fires and cosy atmosphere the couple were keen to bring their expertise to the pub in the pretty Warwickshire village of Hunningham.

Since taking over the pub last December the couple have renovated the pub to give it a fresh new look with a feature library restaurant area, new décor and furniture, cosy mood lighting and ever-present fresh flowers to enhance the building’s heritage making for a truly relaxing visit.

Confident they can take the pub’s reputation to new heights with their winning combination of quality food, wines and real ales the pub will continue to host well -loved music festivals. The Redneck Independence day festival on 5 July will be topped by musical acts regularly playing at the pub throughout the year.

The couple have a reputation for creating environments that not only serve good food but provide a great atmosphere. Mercedes has built her hospitality pedigree in some of Cheshire’s finest bistro-style restaurants. Stephen, ex drummer to the stars, has played with popular musicians including Simply Red, Belinda Carlisle, Michael Hutchence and Rick Astley.

Mercedes said: ‘We are delighted to have acquired the Red Lion business; serving good quality, fresh food at value for money prices, throughout the day and evening we aim to deliver a great experience for all our customers.’ Despite taking the business on during the traditionally quiet winter months, business is encouragingly already up on last year’s figures.

Dating back to the 17th century the Red Lion sits right on the banks of the river Leam just outside of Leamington Spa and a couple of miles from the Fosse Way.
